Dr. P.K. Mishra Reappointed as Principal Secretary to PM Modi | Effective June 10, 2024

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Dr. P.K. Mishra, IAS (Retired), as Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, effective from June 10, 2024. “His appointment will be co-terminus with the term of the Prime Minister or until further orders, whichever is earlier,” the order stated.

Former IAS officer P. K. Mishra has been reappointed as the Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to a Personnel Ministry order. His appointment will take effect on June 10, 2024.

About Pramod Kumar Mishra

Pramod Kumar Mishra (IAST: Pramoda Kumāra Miśra; born 11 August 1948), commonly known as P. K. Mishra, is the 13th and current Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. A 1972 batch Indian Administrative Service officer from the Gujarat cadre, Mishra served as Principal Secretary to Narendra Modi when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2004.

Mishra holds an M.A. in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics (1972), an M.A. in Development Economics (1990), and a Ph.D. in Economics/Development Studies from the University of Sussex. He was appointed Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister on September 11, 2019, after previously serving in various key positions in both the Indian and Gujarat governments. These roles included Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue), Principal Secretary (Agriculture and Cooperation), member of the Gujarat Electricity Board, district magistrate and collector of Mehsana and Banaskantha districts, Union Agriculture Secretary, and Special Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, among others.

After retiring from the Indian Administrative Service, Mishra was appointed chairman of the Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission, a position he held until August 11, 2013. Upon Narendra Modi’s election as Prime Minister of India, Mishra was appointed as Additional Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister and later reappointed in 2019. He is considered one of the most esteemed bureaucrats in India.
