Delhi-Meerut RRTS: Soon you may be able to zip between Delhi and Meerut in just an hour at 160 kmph on Namo Bharat trains. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has successfully completed the scheduled trial run of Namo Bharat trains on Sunday, covering the entire 82-km corridor from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut. The trains completed the journey in under an hour while halting at all stations, marking a major operational milestone in India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS).“This marks a significant operational milestone in the implementation of India’s first Namo Bharat corridor, connecting Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut,” NCRTC said in a statement.During the trial, Namo Bharat trains ran at their maximum operational speed of 160 km per hour. Meerut Metro trains also ran parallel to the train, with both systems completing their respective trials smoothly. Officials highlighted that this is the first time in India that local metro services are being operated on shared infrastructure with high-speed regional trains.Delhi-Meerut RRTS:Currently, a 55-km stretch with 11 stations is open to the public. Work is ongoing on the remaining 4.5 km in Delhi (between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar) and a 23-km section in Meerut (between Meerut South and Modipuram). The Meerut segment includes the Meerut Metro, which features 13 stations—18 km elevated and 5 km underground.A key highlight of the corridor is the deployment of the ETCS Level 3 hybrid signalling system over an LTE backbone, the first such implementation in the world. This advanced signalling system has been integrated with platform screen doors (PSDs) at every station and performed without fault during the trial, according to NCRTC.The successful full-corridor trial is seen as a crucial step toward full commissioning of the Namo Bharat corridor, enhancing connectivity across the National Capital Region.
