NEW DELHI: Lucknow Super Giants’ batter Nicholas Pooran was in a destructive mood as he unleashed a breathtaking onslaught against Delhi Capitals in their Indian Premier League 2025 season opener at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Monday. Pooran, known for his clean hitting, smashed seven towering sixes and six boundaries during his whirlwind knock of 75 off just 30 balls.
The highlight of Pooran’s innings came in the 13th over, bowled by Delhi Capitals’ part-timer Tristan Stubbs, which turned out to be an absolute carnage. Stubbs started the over with a dot ball, giving the impression that he might be able to contain the explosive left-hander.

However, it turned out to be the calm before the storm as Pooran went ballistic, smashing four successive sixes in the next four deliveries. To add salt to Stubbs’ wounds, the over ended with a blistering boundary as Pooran accumulated 28 runs from it. The over read: 0 6 6 6 6 4, leaving Stubbs visibly dejected and the Capitals in shock.
Pooran’s fireworks were complemented by Mitchell Marsh’s explosive innings at the top, as he hammered 72 off just 36 balls, including six sixes and as many fours. The duo stitched a blazing 87-run partnership for the second wicket in just seven overs, propelling Lucknow Super Giants to a daunting total of 209 for 8 after being put into bat by Delhi Capitals’ captain Axar Patel.
Mitchell Starc eventually bowled Pooran with a reverse-swing, but by then, the damage was already done. The Capitals were left with an uphill task as Pooran’s ferocious knock left the Visakhapatnam crowd in awe.
