'Chhaava' effect: Fans suggest for Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s story in school textbooks

Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna’s ‘Chhaava’ released on February 14 and has been running to packed theatres ever since. The film, based on Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, has deeply impacted viewers.
On social media, many fans praised the film and suggested that Sambhaji Maharaj’s story should be included in school textbooks to educate future generations.
‘Chhaava’ has been setting box office records since its release. Audiences, deeply moved by Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s story, took to social media to praise his legacy.
Many questioned why his story is missing from school textbooks and are now demanding that Maratha history be made a compulsory part of history education.
Several schools and teachers have arranged screenings of ‘Chhaava’ for students, a move praised widely online.
Netizens pointed out that history books focus more on the Mughal empire and foreign rulers while ignoring the sacrifices of the Marathas. Many users have even tagged the Ministry of Education, urging them to make lessons on Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj compulsory and encourage schools to screen the film for students.
The film had a strong start with ₹31 crore on its opening day in India. Thanks to positive reviews, the film’s earnings grew quickly.
In 12 days, it has made ₹363.75 crore in India and ₹510.35 crore worldwide, making it a huge success.
Directed by Laxman Utekar, the film plot is an adaptation of the Marathi novel Chhava by Shivaji Sawant. Produced under the banner of Maddock Films. It was released on 14th February 2025. ‘Chhaava’ stars Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna, Akshaye Khanna, Ashutosh Rana, and Divya Dutta in pivotal roles.
