'Chhaava' crosses Rs 500 crore at the box office on day 23, the Vicky Kaushal starrer will now chase the record of Sunny Deol's 'Gadar 2'

Vicky Kaushal’s ‘Chhaava’ which released in cinemas on February 14 has been doing exceptionally well at the box office. The movie has been appealing to people so much that on public demand, it was released in Telugu recently. The film is not only Vicky Kaushal’s highest grosser ever, but it has now finally crossed the Rs 500 crore which is no small feat.
Post pandemic, very few films have managed to do so – like, ‘Gadar 2’, ‘Stree 2’, ‘Animal’, ‘Jawan’ and ‘Pushpa 2’. Considering the fact that the makers also kept the budget of the movie in control, it’s a huge win for the film to cross Rs 500 crore at the box office. This sort of performance was unexpected from the movie. The film wrapped its third week with Rs 84.05 crore. Meanwhile on its fourth Friday, it made Rs 6.25 crore. And now on its fourth Saturday, which is day 23, the film has made Rs 9.38 crore till 6pm in the evening. One can see that the collections will see a jump on Saturday. It will cross a double digit number by night. But, with this, the total collection of the film so far, according to Sacnilk, is Rs 501.68 crore.
Meanwhile, the Telugu version of the film has made Rs 2.5 crore on day 1, which is Friday and can be expected to pick up over Saturday and Sunday.
The film will now be chasing the lifetime number of Sunny Deol’s ‘Gadar 2’ which is Rs 525 crore. If the collections continue to be decent on Sunday and the coming days, it will easily cross this number. If it remains steady in the coming week, the film may eventually also cross the lifetime number of Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Animal’ which is around Rs 550 crore.
‘Chhaava’ also stars Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna.
