IMD has issued yellow alert for several districts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday. Heavy rains are likely to hit various parts of state.
Lashed by steady overnight rainfall, the administration has declared a school holiday in Tamil Nadu’s Chennai on Tuesday. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), heavy rains may lash Chennai and nearby districts till Friday.
As per IMD, heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Villuppuram districts, Puducherry and Karaikal area today.
Chances of heavy rainfall till Friday
A yellow alert warning was issued across various districts, including alerts for 12 districts on November 12, 17 districts on November 13, 27 districts on November 14, and 25 districts on November 15.

Various districts, including Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpet, and Tiruvallur, are likely to be lashed by heavy rainfall between 6 cm and 12 cm in isolated places within the 24-hour period, up to Friday.
What did the IMD say?
According to the IMD, a low-pressure area, formed over the Bay of Bengal, is likely to shift towards Tamil Nadu or Sri Lanka during the next two days.
“For the next 48 hours, the city and the suburbs may receive moderate to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning over some areas. Skies may be partly cloudy. Maximum temperature is likely to be around 32C-33C and minimum temperature is likely to be around 25C,” an IMD bulletin said.
