Despite losing the presidential election, Vice President Kamala Harris hasn’t lost the confidence of many of her supporters, rapper Cardi B among them. The “Bodak Yellow” singer posted a powerful open letter to Harris on Instagram shortly after the race was called for former/future President Trump.
“They can never say that you didn’t run your race with honesty and with integrity! You really put up a fight against all the odds that were already stacked against you,” wrote Cardi. Harris did fight an uphill battle, inheriting the nomination with just months before Election Day after President Biden dropped out of the race. “This may not mean much but I am so proud of you! No one has ever made me change my mind and you did!” she continued. Cardi B spoke at a Harris/Walz rally in Wisconsin on November 1.
“I never thought I would see the day that a woman of colour would be running for the President of the United States,” she added, praising Harris because “you have shown me, showed my daughters and women across the country that anything is possible.” Cardi B has three kids with Migos rapper Offset, two of whom are girls.

The comments on the post…do not pass the vibe check, and while everyone is entitled to their opinion, I would simply remind those who question Cardi B’s ability to understand politics that she is, actually, a bit of a presidential history buff. Her favourite is FDR. Let her say her piece, especially as she isn’t trashing anyone but simply relaying gratitude for something she found inspiring.
Cardi is the first major celebrity to share their in-depth thoughts about the election results, though we can probably expect more throughout the week. In the meantime, it’s worth reading up on five historic victories for women from election night 2024, as down-ballot races are important and impactful.
