NEW DELHI: Mumbai Indians stormed into their second Women’s Premier League (WPL) final on Thursday with a commanding 47-run victory over Gujarat Giants in the Eliminator at the Brabourne Stadium.
While the celebration was in full swing, a special moment unfolded as Mumbai Indians’ two captains, Harmanpreet Kaur and Hardik Pandya, came together to share smiles and congratulations.

Hardik, who will lead the Mumbai Indians men’s team in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, was present at the stadium to cheer on Harmanpreet and her side. Having recently been part of India’s triumphant ICC Champions Trophy campaign in Dubai, Pandya made sure to catch the high-stakes WPL clash, supporting the women’s team as they stormed into the final.
The franchise shared the iconic meeting between the two captains with the caption, “Our favourite BTS clip.” The sight of two MI leaders sharing a light-hearted moment left fans buzzing, epitomising the unity and spirit that define the Mumbai Indians family.
The victory celebrations didn’t stop there. Back at the team hotel, the jubilant MI squad celebrated in full swing, with visuals showing their enthusiastic arrival and a joyous cake-cutting ceremony. The ‘Winners ka vibe check 100’ video posted by Mumbai Indians perfectly captured the mood of pure excitement, as the players danced and reveled in their achievement.
The win itself was a masterclass in dominance. Nat Sciver-Brunt and Hayley Matthews set the tone with power-packed performances, each scoring 77 — Sciver-Brunt off 41 balls and Matthews off 50 — leading Mumbai Indians to a daunting 213 for four, the highest total in WPL playoffs history. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur added the finishing touches with a blistering cameo of 36 from just 12 deliveries.
The Gujarat Giants, already rattled after a lackluster performance with the ball and in the field, faltered further during the chase. Their innings ended at 166 all out in 19.2 overs, marred by three run-outs and a clinical bowling effort from Matthews, who struck thrice to seal the win.
This triumph marked Mumbai Indians’ seventh consecutive victory over Gujarat Giants in WPL history, underlining their dominance. As the reigning champions from the inaugural edition in 2023, Mumbai Indians now gear up to face Delhi Capitals in the title clash on Saturday.
