Bribe for Ticket? Ticketless Passenger’s Cash Ploy Backfires, Laughter and Fine Ensue – News18

In a peculiar incident reported from Uttar Pradesh’s Agra division, a ticketless passenger attempted an unusual tactic to evade fines, only to face consequences instead. The incident unfolded during a routine ticket inspection campaign at the station. According to the Public Relations Officer of the Agra Division, a crackdown has been initiated against ticketless travel and other unauthorised activities within railway premises. During a recent inspection, a passenger was approached by a Traveling Ticket Examiner (TTE) for verification of his ticket status.

Upon being asked for his ticket, the passenger initially pretended to retrieve it from his pocket. However, instead of presenting a ticket, he clenched his fist and extended it towards the TT. Unaware of the passenger’s intent, the TT opened the clenched fist, expecting to find a ticket, only to discover cash inside.

The passenger then humorously justified his action, claiming that the amount of money he handed over equaled the fare of the journey, implying it should suffice. This sparked laughter among bystanders witnessing the incident. Despite the attempt at wit, the TT proceeded to impose a fine on the passenger for traveling without a valid ticket.

During the inspection drive, authorities successfully collected fines totaling Rs 16,925 from 46 ticketless passengers, Rs 2,410 from 6 individuals travelling without authorisation, and Rs 1,800 from 18 littering offenders.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Gajendra Singh, Divisional Commercial Inspector, along with Charan Singh, Chief Ticket Inspector at Agra Fort, and other ticket checking staff. Railway officials have urged passengers to comply with ticketing regulations and maintain cleanliness on railway premises to ensure smooth and lawful travel experiences.
