Make The Most Of Travel With Fur Babies With These Tips

0

[ad_1]

Saumya Singh

Always wanted to travel with your fur friends but not sure how it may turn out? We talked to some people who gave us some much-needed tips on how to take furry buddies on trips, let them experience nature, and how to allow them to become your number one travel companions.

Siddharth Parekh, pet parent and Chief Technology Officer at PetKonnect

Siddharth with Fifi

He runs a platform that provides health and wellness services for pets and is also a proud pet parent to a rescue dog named Fifi. He says travelling with pets can help build stronger trust between the pets and their parents. Make sure you find the best pet-friendly accommodation and get permission to travel with pets if you are taking public transportation. Have pet ID tags with microchips, proof of vaccination, and a pet passport when travelling internationally. He also emphasises the importance of packing your pet’s favourite blanket and toys.

Oindrilla Gupto, pet parent

Oindrilla with lipstick

Having road trips with fur balls can be extremely fun and exciting. However, making them comfortable in cars before planning long rides is an aspect that needs to be focused on. Dogs can travel in cars, but long drives can sometimes lead to restlessness. Former journalist Oindrilla Gupto, who is now a student at the University of Limerick in Ireland, and a proud parent of a dog named Lipstick and four cats named Mogambo, Laado, Zoya, and Phoolan Devi, tells us that her dog can travel easily in a car. But it is necessary for dogs to relieve themselves, have ample food and water, and take three to four walks throughout the ride. However, keeping in mind that cats can be too curious and tend to go out of bounds when travelling a greater distance, Gupto makes sure to plan shorter trips with them. She also goes on luxury vacations with them. Gupto shares that pets can get anxious if left alone in cars or hotel rooms. Hence, it is better to stay with them all the time on a trip.

Priyansha Mishra, founder, On Her Way

A well travelled dog who has covered states from the south to the northeast, Commando is an eight-year-old Labrador who lives with Priyansha Mishra, founder of On Her Way, a community that aims to make travelling for women safer and better. Mishra shares that since her father had an army background, the family would shift to a new place every two years, hence Commando got used to travelling. Though road trips are fun for the lab, he tends to get a little uncomfortable during the first few hours of the journey. She says that this can be the case with a lot of pets, so keeping windows open and comforting them by sitting with them helps a lot.

Apart from the above tips, all the pet parents agreed that carrying your furry companion’s litter tray, eating bowls, favourite treats, chest leashes (so they do not choke the pet), water, newspapers, and wet tissues are the essentials that one cannot forget to pack.

They also advise that you consult a vet before travelling to find out if your fur babies are ready for the trip. Carrying their first aid kit is a must-have when they are accompanying you on the trip. Gupto shares that her dog Lipstick suffers from a heart condition, hence she carries Lipstick’s medicines and digestive syrups for her cats.

TALKING HEADS: What Do The Industry Leaders Think About The FTX Collapse? | Bitcoinist.com

0

[ad_1]

Eduardo Próspero

Believe it or not, the FTX collapse was only two weeks ago. We at Bitcoinist have covered the event from every angle imaginable, but there was something missing. What do the protagonists of the crypto story think about the catastrophe? How do they see the industry in light of what happened? Do they find a silver lining or do they incline to doom and gloom? These are seriously interesting times in the crypto world, and the captains of the industry have a lot to say and few places to say it.

That’s where Bitcoinist comes in.

If you want to be featured in this section, contact our main offices.

Now, without further ado, let’s go to the quotes.

Alexander Tkachenko, Founder Of VNX

“The events triggered by FTX were a serious blow to the entire industry and had a domino effect on many players. It clearly demonstrated that the nascent blockchain-based financial ecosystem and crypto-industry, in addition to the opportunities, also carries serious risks.

I think the FTX bankruptcy would do far more damage to the industry than the LUNA collapse. While the stablecoin algorithmic model is an experiment in itself and problems are at least tolerable, in the case of FTX, nothing foretold trouble. Moreover, FTX was also the largest exchange serving institutional clients, with the arrival of which the bullrun of recent years was associated. And so the fragile trust is now undermined.

I remain a true believer in the potential of blockchain technology and decentralized finance to transform the financial sector and make it inclusive.  I think that the industry will now consolidate around either centralized well-regulated exchanges or conversely decentralized, but transparent solutions.”

Gregory Pepin, CEO Of Io.FINNET, On The FTX Collapse

“The similarities between the fall of Sam Bankman-Fried’s FTX and the collapse that sparked the Great Financial Crisis, “The Lehman Brothers,” have been repeatedly exposed by the media. And same as in 2008, we can also see some opportunities.

The failure of FTX has a negative impact on the perception and trust of centralized financial operators, who still have a role to play. Furthermore, the collapse will have a profound effect on key companies and actors in the industry, the next 3 to 6 months will be key to understanding the magnitude of FTX’s turmoil. After these negative events, mass adoption of crypto will logically be hindered by a lack of trust.

Nevertheless, when the economy exploded in 2008, nobody thought it was the end of the capital market, but an opportunity to improve transparency and regulation. Similarly, the crypto industry will be forced to become more transparent and increase ownership and smart regulation. Crypto enthusiasts and investors are already feeling the need to return to blockchain’s core principle: displacing trust in the technology itself rather than in a small group of actors: “Trust the code not the human.”

Adam Carver, CEO & Co-Founder of Bitgreen

“Thank god the sector is flushing out the bad actors now while we are a tiny industry and still finding our backbone! FTX’s collapse may actually be spot on time, and its collapse can serve as a catalyst for lawmakers to establish more clear regulatory structures for digital assets, and to provide their regulatory authorities with express powers relating to digital assets. Just imagine if this has occurred five years later with a market cap of tens of trillions of dollars from retirement and insurance accounts. The damage would be devastating! As off-putting as it may be, in a growing industry, today’s offenders are the sacrificial lambs for the future.”

Paolo Ardoino, CTO for Tether, On The FTX Collapse

“The last week just showed that there is a big difference between Bitcoin and everything else. We have seen an exchange that actually devoted itself to altcoins with some debatable approaches to the point where they were actually managing these tokens to go bankrupt. The sad, sad story is that many people had bitcoins on those exchange and that exchange, and they thought they had Bitcoins on that exchange, but now they realize they don’t have any more Bitcoins.

It shows the (importance) of holding your bitcoins in your private wallet, right? So, not everyone can do that yet, right? Because there is some user experience challenges because no one is comfortable, and not everyone is comfortable to store its own bitcoins privately, but I think that what happened is making more and more the case of for companies to research in building applications that can help the self custody of Bitcoins.

And again, as I said, (the FTX collapse) also showed the difference between Bitcoin as more reliable, more secure, un-censorable money network and the rest. The industry will learn that you know, you cannot lend out other people’s money. You cannot use other people’s money to buy stuff. And so on. What happened here was not a mistake, it is not that they were hacked. They took several decisions to put at risk customer assets.”

This quote was taken from NewsBTC’s exclusive interview with Paolo Ardoino

Let’s pass the page on this FTX collapse drama with a melody, for God’s sake.

No prospect of recession in India, economy to grow 6-7 pc in next fiscal: Rajiv Kumar

0

[ad_1]

Press Trust of India ( )

India will still grow at 6-7% in the next 2023-24 fiscal even as the economy may be affected by uncertain global conditions, former Niti Aayog Vice-Chairman Rajiv Kumar has said amid growing fears of the world slipping into a recession.

Kumar further said there is a synchronised downturn in the US, Europe, Japan and also in China and that could take the global economy into a recession in the coming months.

“Thankfully, there is no such prospect of recession in India, because although our growth may be negatively affected by the global conditions, we will still manage to grow at 6-7% in 2023-24,” he told PTI in an interview.

The World Bank on October 6 projected a 6.5% growth rate for the Indian economy for 2022-23, a drop of one percentage point from its June 2022 projections, citing the deteriorating international environment, while IMF projected a growth rate of 6.8% in 2022 as compared to 8.7% in 2021 for India.

IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva has said the global economy is moving from a world of relative predictability to one of greater uncertainty.

Replying to a question on high inflation, Kumar said retail inflation will probably be in the range of 6-7% for some more time.

“After that, my estimate is that it should begin to peak and then come down,” he said.

Kumar added that depends a lot on global oil prices as they can continue to rise because of the continued conflict in Ukraine.

“But otherwise domestic drivers of inflation will cool down,” he noted.

Indicating easing of the price situation, retail inflation moderated to 6.7% in October while the wholesale price index fell to a 19-month low mainly on account of subdued rates of food items.

The central bank is mandated to keep inflation at 4% with 2% of upside and downside margins.

Asked about the impact of a weakening Indian rupee on the common man, the former Niti Aayog vice chairman said the common Indian does not use a lot of imported goods or services in their consumption basket.

According to Kumar, the rupee which is near its real value is much better for the economy than the appreciated rupee and depreciated rupee doesn’t pose many downside risks.

The rupee depreciated 6 paise to close at 81.74 against the US dollar on Friday.

On India’s widening trade deficit, Kumar said with the negative growth of exports in October, it is clear that the country needs a real policy focus on this area on how to expand its exports of both goods and services.

“We need to now formulate state-specific export promotion policies. Because to have one single export promotion policy for the whole country does not make sense,” he said.

Elaborating further, he said that like Punjab is a double landlocked state and Tamil Nadu is a coastal state, and it has centuries of trading experience. “So, to have the same policies of both those states, for example, is not relevant,” he emphasised.

India’s exports entered negative territory after a gap of about two years, declining sharply by 16.65% to $29.78 billion in October, mainly due to global demand slowdown, even as the trade deficit widened to $26.91 billion.

Imports during the month under review rose by about 6% to $56.69 billion on account of an increase in the inbound shipments of crude oil and certain raw materials such as cotton, fertiliser and machinery.

Responding to a question on some states switching to the old pension scheme (OPS), Kumar said, “That’s a backward step. and I don’t think that should be taken.”

He opined that it is being advocated by some opposition parties because of populist measures.

“I think the Indian economy, the Indian working class, Indian middle class is maturing and can handle their own pension funds and take advantage of the new pension scheme, which offers much more choices than the old pension scheme,” Kumar said.

Punjab cabinet on Friday approved the reimplementation of the old pension scheme, which was discontinued in 2004.

Watch: Suryakumar Yadav Hits 49-Ball Ton vs New Zealand, Lights Up Mount Maunganui

Suryakumar Yadav brought up his century off just 49 balls against NZ© AFP

Right-handed batter Suryakumar Yadav was at his blistering best in the ongoing second T20I vs New Zealand and he brought up his century off just 49 balls. As soon as he brought up the landmark, Suryakumar celebrated in style and his skipper Hardik Pandya embraced him. This is Suryakumar’s second T20I ton, and co-incidentally his first ton in the shortest format came this year itself against England.

Suryakumar Yadav walked out to bat in the 7th over of the innings and he started playing shots from the get-go and no New Zealand bowler was comfortable while bowling to him. Throughout the innings, the batter showed why he is ranked No.1 in the T20I rankings.

The right-handed batter was the best Indian batter in the recently-concluded T20 World Cup, where India reached the semi-finals. He was able to go after the bowling from the get-go, and the tournament, saw Suryakumar Yadav hitting three half-centuries.

Against New Zealand, Suryakumar Yadav hit 11 fours and 7 sixes. In the end, he remained unbeaten on 111 off just 51 balls. He had brought up his half-century off just 32 balls.

In the end, his knocked helped Team India post 191/6 in 20 overs. Tim Southee also took a hat-trick for New Zealand.

Earlier, it was Kane Williamson who had won the toss and he had opted to bowl first.

What To Do If You Get Pickpocketed Abroad

0

[ad_1]

Saumya Singh

You are surrounded by stunning scenery, gorgeous heritage sites, fantastic food when you travel to another country. And, sadly, pickpockets too.

All too often people fall prey to pickpockets while travelling. It is a fairly common occurrence as they tend to target tourists in particular. In fact there are certain sites in some countries where pickpockets hang out looking for gullible tourists!

Here’s what you can do if it happens to you.

Take These Steps When Pickpocketed

Time is of the essence. First off, cancel your cards by getting in touch with your bank at the earliest. Try going to a neighbouring hotel and explaining what happened and that you need to make an emergency call. Or try contacting the embassy of your country and asking them for the numbers if you don’t have access to a computer to check out your banks’ phone numbers.

If your phone has been taken, make sure you  cancel all the services on your phone and file a report. Head to a police station so that you get access to a phone and can also file the report.

In case your passport is stolen, head to the embassy and ask for the issuance of an emergency passport so that you can travel back to your country.

If you don’t have the cash handy, try reaching out to your family members via Facebook or Instagram video calls so that they can send you money, and you can collect it from services like Western Union. The embassy, too, helps you to fly back, but this can be very expensive to reach back to your country so keep this as the last option.

Save Yourself From Being Pickpocketed

Keep your bags in front and close to your chest so that they don’t get easy access. Hanging them on the side or at the back makes it easier for the thieves to get a hold of your bags. You can choose to wear a money belt instead.

Avoid wearing something that looks unusual and puts you on the spot. Put on artificial jewellery and watches if you wish to in order to avoid any regrets, if they get taken away.

Do not carry a huge amount of cash with you. Pay everywhere using cards as they can be easily cancelled in case of theft.

Be cautious of where you are and what you are doing. Do not put your phones or wallets on the table. Also, distribute your valuables and carry them in different bags so that you do not lose everything at once.

Historic Hydro Power Tunnel In Niagara Falls Is Open For Tourists

0

[ad_1]

Saumya Singh

Visitors will now have access to a 2,200-foot tunnel that runs beneath the Niagara Falls’ cathedral of power and takes them on a tour of its 115-year past. The tunnel, which was constructed in 1905 on the Canadian side of the Niagara River, was used to outflow water and generate electricity for upstate New York and Canada from 1905 to 2006. You can travel down the tunnel in a glass-enclosed elevator. Then for a breathtaking panoramic view of the falls, stand on the viewing platform at the brink of the Niagara River and immerse yourself in the surreal experience of tranquility and grandeur.

The tunnel was excavated in 1901 with lanterns, rudimentary dynamite, pickaxes, and shovels and then later served to be a power station. After being utilised to generate energy, the tunnel was the water’s outlet for more than a century. So, in a nutshell, you will be following the path that the water traversed and arriving at an observation deck where the tunnel comes to a swift end so you can experience vistas of Horseshoe and American Falls that are both unmatched and unfathomable.

The Niagara Parks Power Station has made sure to give you a historical trek by giving regular admission inside the station, where one can observe and learn about the production of hydroelectricity and the station’s past by using your mobile device to scan the story markers throughout the station and exploring more in-depth content. The famous tunnel was also visited by Marilyn Monroe and Mark Twain in the past.

Since July 2022, when the tour of the abandoned Niagara Parks Power Station began, it has been a component of the tour. Strolling through the tunnel offers a fascinating glimpse at the early initiatives that helped move this part of North America into the modern era. Not to forget, the river ran the giant generators, which helped in making the Great Lakes port of Buffalo become known as the City of Light.

The initial Canadian Niagara Power Company operation used Westinghouse generators to create the alternating currents that inventor Nikola Tesla developed. Aesthetics were of the utmost importance throughout the construction of the station. The building’s rustic limestone facade and blue roof tiles were an effort by New York architect Algernon S. Bell to have it blend in with the falls.

Before entering the tunnel, visitors to the power plant are given a scale model of the intricate technological projects that went into converting the pounding waves into electricity. One can visit the falls on all seven days of the week from 10 AM to 5 PM with a nominal admission fee for entry.
