BJP sweeps civic bodies’ election in northern Haryana districts, Barara won by independent

AMBALA/KURUKSHETRA/YAMUNANAGAR: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won all the presidential seats and a mayoral seat in three northern Haryana districts Ambala, Kurukshetra, and Yamunanagar, except the chair of Barara Municipal Council. The counting remained peaceful in the region.
BJP’s Shailja Sandeep Sachdeva was elected as Mayor of Ambala City Municipal Corporation (MC) with a big margin of 20,487 votes, who bagged 40,620 votes while Congress candidate Dalip Chawla got 20,133 votes.
After winning, Shailja Sachdeva said, “It is a victory for all BJP workers and residents of Ambala, who worked with me as brother, sister, son and daughter. This will give a new direction to speed of the development; I give this guarantee as this guarantee has been given to me by Nayab Saini Ji (CM Haryana). He gave Kamal (BJP’s election symbol lotus) in my hand, and people gave the Kalam (pen), now the development of Ambala will run at the speed of a bullet train.”
In Ambala Sadar MC election, BJP’s Swaran Kaur also won by a big margin of 26,923 votes as she bagged 58,891 votes while independent candidate Mandeep Kaur Babyal got 31,968 votes. Among the 32 wards of Ambala Sadar MC, wards 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 (uncontested), 26, 27, 28, 30, 31 and 32 were won by BJP, while independent candidates won ward 1, 5, 6, 11, 14, 25, and 29 were won by independent candidates.
In Ambala’s Barara MC, independent candidate Rajat was elected as president, who got 6,307 votes while BJP’s Harjinder Singh trailed him with 4,314 votes. Election was also conducted in 16 wards of Barara MC, where counting was peaceful and independent candidates won.
In Kurukshetra’s Thanesar MC, BJP candidate Mafee Devi was elected president as she won with a big margin of 32,577 votes as she got 47,828 votes while Congress’s Sunita Kumari got 15,251 votes. Among 30 wards of Thanesar MC, ward 1 to 11, 13, 14, 15, 17, 19, 20, 22, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 31, 32 (uncontested) were won by BJP, while independent candidates won ward 12, 16, 18, 21, 23, 29, and 30.
In Ismailabad MC, BJP’s Megha Bansal was elected president with 2,766 votes while independent candidate Deepshikha trailed with 2,455 votes.
In Yamunanagar-Jagadhri MC, BJP’s Suman Behmani was elected as Mayor, as she won by a big margin of 73,319 votes as she got 1,26,749 votes while Congress candidate Kirna Devi got 53,430 votes. Among 22 wards here, wards 1 to 15, and 16 to 22 were won by BJP while ward 14 was won by an independent candidate.
In Radaur MC, BJP’s Rajnish Mehta was elected as president with 3,659 votes while the independent candidate trailed with 3,113 votes. Election was held at 14 wards of Radaur MC, all won by independents.
