Smelling the chance to extend on their recent purple patch, Henan will welcome Zhejiang Professional to the Shanghai Stadium on Sunday lunchtime.
Starting with the hosts, extending on their FA Cup adventure earlier in the week as they secured a 1-0 victory at home against Guangxi Pingguo, Henan find themselves in the midst of a real flurry. Despite opening up the 2024 campaign at the heart of a relegation scrap, the Red Devils have skyrocketed their way up the Super League standings and they now sit within striking distance of breaking into the top-half. Signing off June with a thumping 3-0 romp away at Meizhou Hakka, Nam Ki-il’s men have suffered just a single loss from any of their previous eight appearances across all competitions. With that extended run stemming back to May 21st, the Zhengzhou-based outfit will be confident of laying down another marker this weekend. It should also be highlighted, Henan have continued to shine with their rugged performances at the back. In fact, Sunday’s hosts have conceded just a single goal in any of their last six consecutive outings.
As for the visitors, while Zhejiang Professional might have enjoyed a real May romp, the Green Giants have come crashing back down to earth in a worrying fashion. Watching their FA Cup adventure come to an end earlier in the week as they fell to a 2-1 loss at home against Shanghai Port, Jordi Vinyals’ men almost find themselves sat in Super League limbo. Last seen in top-flight action putting in a nightmare display as they slumped to a 5-2 drumming at the hands of Qingdao West Coast, the one-time Barcelona coach could have some mounting pressure on his shoulders. Including an action-packed 3-2 defeat against Shenzhen Xinpengcheng last month, Sunday’s guests have lost four of their previous five matchups across all competitions. Facing what could be a rugged challenge this weekend, Zhejiang have also shown some glaring issues on the road. In fact, along with losing all of their last three away fixtures by an aggregate score of 11-4, Vinyals’ downbeat squad have lost seven of their previous nine battles outside of Hangzhou.
