People of our country are waiting for the arrival of the monsoon, as the temperature is increasing day by day. The monsoon season is set to start in Bengaluru soon. According to reports, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert on May 16. As per the forecast, heavy rain along with thunderstorms and lightning is set to take place in the city between May 16 and May 21. As the yellow alert was issued by the weather department, people are advised to take precautionary measures for adverse conditions. In order to stop any kind of unforeseen situations, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has already started to take several preparatory measures. The BBMP has identified many flood-prone areas and steps are being taken to fight out the situation. According to reports, the BBMP has identified 198 such areas that can experience flooding due to heavy rainfall.

Last year, Bengaluru witnessed a massive flood due to very high rainfall that rocked the city. After IMD issued the yellow alert the situation may look similar if the heavy rain takes place. The city may again experience massive floods in several areas. The BBMP has already started taking temporary precautionary measures in 67 areas to avoid a flood-like situation. The places include Mahadevapura, Bommanahalli, and Rajarajeshwari Nagar. Adding to it special maintenance work was also held in the area of Rajakaluve. Some maintenance measures were also carried out in various places out of the list to ensure the safety of the people.

In the year 2017, the BBMP conducted a flood survey for the first time, which revealed that around 209 areas in the city of Bengaluru were prone to flood-like situations. With the aim of introducing a permanent solution lakhs of rupees were spent on the development but the situation remained the same. The city is hit by floods everytime it experiences heavy rainfall. According to a report by Times Now, in a recent storm over 270 trees were uprooted. The Bengaluru Traffic Police were instructed to take prompt action and ensure smooth traffic movement in case of heavy rainfall.
