The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) implemented limitations on family accompaniment during international tours after India’s 3-1 loss against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series. But it continues to be a point of debate.
Recently, Virat Kohli expressed his disappointment about the limitation on families accompanying players on tours, but the board, while acknowledging resentment, remains firm on keeping the diktat in place.

Talking about it, former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh’s wife, Hazel Keech, has spoken in favour of the policy, saying that it will help players stay focused even though staying away from the loved ones for a long time can be difficult.
“I can understand when Yuvi was playing international cricket, moving from one tournament to another, and he would be away for a long time. For families with small children, it was difficult to be apart for so long,” Keech told ANI. “But when I used to watch his matches, Yuvi would always be concerned about me, which affected his focus on the game. So, allowing families to join for a limited time is beneficial in both ways.”
The newly implemented policy stipulates that for tours extending beyond 45 days, immediate family members, comprising spouses and children, are permitted to join the players for 14 days following the initial fortnight. For briefer tours, families are allowed to accompany players for a maximum of seven days.
