Arjun Erigaisi is closing in on D Gukesh’s India No. 1 position, gaining five points in FIDE‘s April Rating List to reach within five points of Gukesh’s 2787 rating. Erigaisi’s rise has also propelled him to World No. 4, overtaking Fabiano Caruana.
Erigaisi had previously lost his India No. 1 ranking to Gukesh in January following their performances at the Tata Steel Masters in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands. While Gukesh secured a runner-up finish, Erigaisi struggled with only two wins in 14 games.

Other Indian players have also achieved notable success. R Praggnanandhaa reached a career-high ranking, moving to seventh position by displacing China’s Wei Yi. Aravindh Chithambaram made remarkable progress, gaining 17.5 points to achieve his best-ever ranking of 11th position.
