'Caught stealing red-handed yet again': BJP targets Congress over National Herald case

NEW DELHI: BJP MP and former Union minister Anurag Thakur on Friday launched a sharp attack on the Congress party following the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) chargesheet in the National Herald money laundering case.
Addressing a press conference, Thakur accused the Congress of repeatedly being caught in corruption and said the party’s discomfort over the case is a clear sign of guilt.
“The Congress party time and again tries to relaunch and fails, I am talking about the National Herald. Whenever we talk about National Herald, it creates a sensation across the entire ecosystem of the Congress party. It is obvious they would be rattled, as they have been caught stealing red-handed yet again. If you look at the history of the Congress, several scams have come to light since Independence,” Thakur said.
His remarks come days after the ED filed a prosecution complaint (chargesheet) on April 9 against former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, leader of the opposition Rahul Gandhi, and others, in connection with alleged proceeds of crime amounting to Rs 5,000 crore.
The chargesheet paves the way for the framing of criminal charges and the beginning of trial in the case.
The Congress, however, has dismissed the case as politically motivated. Party leaders have called it a “clear misuse of the ED” and an example of “vendetta politics” by the ruling BJP.
Meanwhile, several Congress workers staged a protest outside the All India Congress Committee headquarters at 24, Akbar Road, condemning the move.
