According to Fabrizio Romano, Sporting Lisbon head coach Ruben Amorim has been approached by Manchester United over the vacant managerial spot and he’s given the 20-time English champions an “initial green light”, obviously interested in taking over from the recently sacked Erik ten Hag. For the time being, Ruud van Nistelrooy is acting as the interim manager at United.
Earlier this year, Amorim was heavily linked with Liverpool before the Merseysiders chose Arne Slot to succeed Jurgen Klopp, and later he held talks with West Ham for which he ended up apologizing to his current employers.
There is apparently a release clause of around €10 million in Amorim’s contract, but after the West Ham fiasco he wants to remain respectful towards Sporting, leaving the matter for the two clubs to negotiate over.
The 39-year-old Portuguese tactician started his managerial career at Cas Pia AC and had a brief spell at Braga, where he won the Portuguese League Cup, before securing appointment at Sporing in March, 2020. Since then, he’s led the Lisbon club to two league titles, two League Cups, and one Super Cup.
🚨 Ruben Amorim has given initial green light to Man United. He’s keen on joining the club, accepting the project and the terms discussed.
Amorim respects Sporting… and so it depends on club to club negotiation now.
