Amid kiss controversy, Udit Narayan's first wife files a case against him accusing him of illegally taking her property: Report

Udit Narayan is known for his magical voice, but recently, he found himself in controversy. A video of him kissing a female fan on the lips went viral, leading to criticism. Now, he faces legal trouble as his first wife, Ranjana, has filed a maintenance case against him.
According to recent reports, the singer’s first wife, Ranjana Jha, has filed a maintenance case against him, accusing him of illegally taking her property. On February 21, 2025, Udit appeared at the Supaul Family Court and refused to settle the matter. According to a report in Navbharat Times, he claimed that Ranjana was trying to extort money from him. Earlier, a case was also filed against him at the Bihar Women’s Commission, but it was settled at that time.

Ranjana reportedly stated through her lawyer that she wants to spend the rest of her life with Udit Narayan due to her declining health. Speaking to the media outside the court, she claimed that the singer has been ignoring her and also kept Rs 18 lakh from the sale of her land.

Ranjana also alleged that she is followed by goons whenever she visits Mumbai. Reports suggest that Udit Narayan initially provided her with Rs 15,000 for maintenance, which increased to Rs 25,000 in 2021. He also reportedly gave her farmland and a house worth Rs 1 crore. Additionally, the Bihar Women’s Commission found that Udit had given her jewellery and land worth Rs 25 lakh, which she later sold.
Udit Narayan married Deepa Gahatraj in 1985, and they had a son two years later. In 2006, controversy erupted when Ranjana Jha publicly claimed to be his first wife during his show in Patna. Initially, Udit denied it but later accepted and agreed to provide her maintenance. Ranjana alleged that they married in 1984 before he moved to Mumbai for opportunities. She also claimed he never informed her about his second marriage or sought a divorce.
