Ahmedabad plane crash: LIC eases claim settlement procedures for Air India crash victims, Bajaj Allianz sets up emergency desk

Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) on Friday said it has relaxed its claim settlement procedures for families affected by the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad and assured swift processing of claims to provide urgent financial relief. In a statement, LIC said it is committed to supporting victims’ families and has introduced special concessions to ease the process. “In lieu of a death certificate, any evidence from government records confirming death due to the crash, or compensation received from central/state government or airline authorities, will be accepted as valid proof of death,” the insurer stated. The public sector insurer said it would proactively reach out to claimants and ensure the expedited settlement of all valid claims, reported PTI. It advised affected families to visit the nearest LIC branch or contact the LIC call centre at 022-68276827 for assistance.Private insurer Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance also announced a dedicated special claims settlement desk to prioritise processing of death and disability claims for policyholders impacted by the crash. The company said it has introduced a minimal documentation requirement to speed up the claim process and offer support to grieving families.“In response to this tragedy, we have activated special measures to provide immediate support. The claims will be processed with utmost urgency and minimal hassle to the nominees or legal heirs,” Bajaj Allianz said in its statement. The crash involved a London-bound Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which plunged into a medical college complex shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday. The accident claimed 241 of the 242 lives onboard.Among the deceased were 169 Indian nationals, 53 British citizens, seven Portuguese nationals and one Canadian passenger. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
