Ahmedabad plane crash: Air India CEO Campbell Wilson reacts; says ‘it’s a difficult day for us’

Ahmedabad plane crash: Air India’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Campbell Wilson conveyed “deep sorrow” about the Boeing 787-8 aircraft crash carrying 242 onboard, acknowledging it as a challenging period for the entire Air India team.The aircraft, destined for London, crashed shortly after departing from Ahmedabad airport on Thursday afternoon.In his video address, Wilson confirmed that the airline is collaborating with officials on emergency response initiatives.“First and most importantly, I would like to express our deep sorrow about this event. This is a difficult day for all of us here in India. And it’s now focused entirely on the needs of our passengers, crew members, their families, and loved ones,” Wilson said.The Boeing aircraft met with an accident shortly after departure from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, crashing into a densely populated residential neighbourhood. The incident resulted in numerous casualties.The passengers included 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese nationals and one Canadian national, totalling 230 passengers.“The injured passengers have been taken by local authorities to the nearest hospitals. We have set up a special helpline that friends and family can reach us at,” he mentioned, noting that teams are currently providing continuous support to passengers, crew, their families and investigators.
