NEW DELHI: Following in the footsteps of Virat Kohli, Mumbai Indians legend Rohit Sharma was felicitated with a special IPL memento for his remarkable 18-season journey in the league.
The recognition came just ahead of Mumbai Indians’ clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, with BCCI President Roger Binny personally presenting the commemorative “IPL 18” token to the veteran opener.

Rohit’s IPL journey began in 2008 with the now-defunct Deccan Chargers, where he showcased his talent as a young batter.
In 2011, he was snapped up by Mumbai Indians, a move that would define his legacy.

Over the next decade, Rohit not only became the backbone of MI’s batting line-up but also transformed into one of the most successful captains in IPL history, guiding the team to five title victories (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020).
Known for his calm demeanour and tactical acumen, Rohit’s leadership elevated MI to become one of the most dominant franchises in IPL history.
His contributions go beyond numbers as his ability to lead under pressure and groom young talent has been crucial to the franchise’s sustained success.

This recognition mirrors the one received by Virat Kohli during the IPL 2025 opening ceremony.
Kohli, the face of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, has been with his franchise since the league’s inception and remains the all-time highest run-scorer in IPL history.
While Kohli’s 18-year journey has been filled with personal milestones, Rohit’s legacy stands out for the blend of individual brilliance and team triumphs.
Rohit’s felicitation, just like Kohli’s, is a tribute to endurance, excellence, and evolution over nearly two decades of high-octane T20 cricket.
