Pune Porsche crash: Congress demands CBI probe, says Fadnavis must resign | India News – Times of India

TOI News Desk

NEW DELHI: Maharashtra Congress on Tuesday called for a CBI investigation into the Pune Porsche crash incident that claimed two lives and demanded the resignation of deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. The incident, which occurred on May 19 in the Kalyani Nagar area, involved a Porsche allegedly driven by an intoxicated 17-year-old, resulting in the deaths of two IT professionals.
“Such incidents have been reported in Nagpur, Jalgaon and Pune, but what is infuriating is that efforts were made through the government system to ensure that the privileged accused get immediate bail,” Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole alleged.
The CBI must investigate the car crash case as there seems to be political interference to save the rich accused, he added.
Patole accused the Sassoon General Hospital of being a “five-star hotel for criminals” and expressed concern over the increasing instances of drunken driving and drug use in the state.
“Illegal drug racket is operating in Pune. Illegal pubs are rampant in Pune and Nagpur. After the car accident case, 36 illegal pubs in Pune had to be demolished. The BJP has ruined the youth by bringing large quantities of drugs from Gujarat to Maharashtra,” he alleged.
“A minister and an MLA recommended that Dr Taware should be made the superintendent. People should know their names. The interference of the ruling party has increased, and criminals are roaming freely in the city. A tehsildar was fatally attacked in Indapur. From where do criminals get so much courage? It cannot happen without political blessings,” Patole said.
The Congress leader also alleged that an illegal drug racket is operating in Pune, with numerous illegal pubs thriving in both Pune and Nagpur. He claimed that the BJP has “ruined the youth” by bringing large quantities of drugs from Gujarat to Maharashtra.
A Porsche, which the police claim was driven by minor who was allegedly drunk at the time, fatally hit two software engineers riding motorbikes in the city early on Sunday.
The teenager was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) which granted him bail while asking him to write a 300-word essay.
There was an outcry over quick bail and the police’s review plea. The Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) remanded the teen, who is the son of real estate developer Vishal Agarwal, to the observation home until June 5.
