John Lithgow to play Albus Dumbledore in Harry Potter’s series

John Lithgow, the actor renowned for his roles in ‘Conclave,’ ‘Dexter,’ and ‘Interstellar,’ confirms his upcoming role as Headmaster Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter series. Francesca Gardiner will guide the series as showrunner, taking the spells and mystics through the smaller screens after getting love for the books, and films.
In an interview with Screen Rant, Lithgow confirmed his casting by expressing that he received the call that was going to define the last chapter of his life. While he may be afraid to take up the role, the ‘Cliffhanger’ actor is excited. Lithgow added, “Some wonderful people are turning their attention back to Harry Potter. That’s why it’s been such a hard decision. I’ll be about 87 years old at the wrap party, but I’ve said yes.”
The show is likely to be aired in late 2026 – early 2027, while the filming of the series is likely to commence by the summer of 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, UK, as per Screen Rant.
The secret of John’s character as Dumbledore was accidentally spilt, however, as the rumours persist, Paapa Essiedu has been eyed to play Severus Snape in the show. However, the leading roles of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermoine Granger have been kept confidential. As per the show’s requirements, the producers put a wide casting call for the young roles, which indicates the actors might not be ones from known names.
John Lithgow takes up the role of the significant character in the series which was played by late actors, Richard Harris, and Michael Gambon. The role might be difficult to portray, but Lithgow himself has left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry.
In the list of previous roles, John played Dick Solomon, the eccentric alien in ‘3rd Rock from the Sun’ (1996-2001), in ‘The Undoing’ (2020), Lithgow played Franklin Reinhardt, and in ‘The Crown’ (2016 2017), the actor starred as Winston Churchill.
