Director Vinay Sapru reveals Salman Khan would have been perfect for 'Sanam Teri Kasam' in the 90s
Filmmaker Vinay Sapru revealed that Salman Khan would have been his first choice for ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ in the 90s. Sapru credits Salman for launching their career with ‘Lucky: No Time for Love’ and hopes to collaborate with him again, admiring his enduring stardom.

Filmmaker Vinay Sapru, who directed Sanam Teri Kasam alongside Radhika Rao, has disclosed that Salman Khan would have been their first choice for the lead role if the film had been made in the 90s. In an interview, Sapru discussed his strong connection with the actor.
Vinay recently met Khan on the sets of Sikandar. Salman helped launch their career with Lucky: No Time for Love. Sapru views Sanam Teri Kasam as a way of repaying Salman’s faith in them. In a conversation with India Today, he recalled that when he first saw the trailer of Sanam Teri Kasam, he remembered Khan’s words predicting it would be a blockbuster and praising their work as writers and directors. Upon meeting Salman again, Sapru expressed that the film was a redemption of Salman’s trust in them. Salman had given them their first break with Lucky: No Time for Love, and although their songs were successful, they had not delivered a hit film until Sanam Teri Kasam. With its success, they felt they had finally met Salman’s expectations.
Sapru shared that he and Radhika recently visited Khan with a small packet of sweets, expressing their gratitude for finally redeeming the faith he had in them. They felt vindicated as audiences now celebrate their film, dancing in cinemas and creating reels from the dialogues. Sapru also mentioned that if Sanam Teri Kasam had been made in the 90s, Salman would have been their ideal choice for the lead role due to his innocence and romantic hero persona.
Vinay believes that any newcomer would have been a great fit as the female lead opposite Salman because of his ability to elevate his co-stars. He described Khan as the ultimate romantic hero of the 90s. Sapru expressed his admiration for Salman’s enduring stardom and stated that they would be honoured to collaborate with him again when the right script and time align. Salman is considered an institution in himself, with unmatched longevity as a superstar.
