Kyndryl to invest $2.25 bn in India, set up AI lab in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: IT infrastructure services provider Kyndryl said on Thursday it will invest $2.25 billion (around Rs 18,900 crore) in India over the next three years, expanding its operations and building an AI Innovation Lab in Bengaluru.The company said the commitment will support modernisation of technology infrastructure for enterprises, develop future-ready talent and contribute to the government’s digital public infrastructure goals.Chairman and CEO Martin Schroeter said the company is “committed to further developing our people, expanding our technical capabilities and strengthening community partnerships to support growth, innovation and opportunity,” in a statement late Thursday.Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the announcement, saying global partners collaborating with India’s youth can build solutions “that not only benefit India but also contribute to global progress,” the statement added.Kyndryl already works with several large Indian organisations including Bangalore International Airport, Canara Bank, National Stock Exchange, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories and Honda Motorcycles and Scooter India. Its focus areas in the country include AI, cybersecurity, and hybrid IT modernisation.The new Bengaluru AI Lab will house data scientists, consultants and engineers to co-create AI-driven solutions with enterprises. Kyndryl said it will also sign an MoU with the Ministry of Commerce & Industry to support the Ease of Doing Business initiative using its AI platform, Kyndryl Bridge.As part of its skilling initiatives, the company said it will expand digital training programs to reach around 200,000 citizens, establish offices in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, and partner with universities and research centers for an early-career program. It will also integrate a skilling program with the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT) to train students and professionals in technologies such as cloud operations and cybersecurity.
