Ingredients required:
1/2 cup toor dal, 4 drumsticks or moringa sticks, 1 tomato, 2 green chilli, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, salt to taste, and 2.5 cups water
For Tempering:1 tbsp ghee, 1/2 tsp mustard seeds, 1/2 tsp cumin seeds, a pinch of hing, 3-4 garlic pods, 1 dry red chilli, and a few curry leaves
Method
1. Wash and pressure cook the dal with turmeric, tomato, and green chilli for 3–4 whistles until soft.2. In the meantime, boil the drumsticks in lightly salted water until soft.3. Mash the cooked dal lightly and mix in the cooked drumsticks. Add more water if needed to adjust consistency.4. Heat ghee in a pan, add mustard seeds, let them splutter. Add cumin, garlic, red chilli, hing, and curry leaves. Sauté until fragrant.5. Pour the tempering into the dal, mix well, and simmer for 2–3 minutes. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice.
