'Go watch the match': Shashi Tharoor declines to comment amidst reports of rift with party

NEW DELHI: Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Sunday declined to comment further on the internal party criticism he faced for his recent positive remarks about Kerala’s LDF government‘s industrial policy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“No comments at all. Go watch the match; it’s an important match today,” the Thiruvananthapuram MP said to reporters at the New Delhi airport today.
On Saturday, Tharoor shared Thomas Gray’s quote on his X platform: “Where ignorance is bliss, ’tis folly to be wise.”
Earlier, the Congress leader in a Malayalam podcast interview, published in English by a prominent New Delhi newspaper, expressed concerns about Congress’s electoral prospects, suggesting the party might face a third consecutive opposition term in Kerala without broadening its appeal.
The interview highlighted his observation about party workers’ perception of leadership vacuum in Kerala’s Congress. Additionally, he mentioned his four-term tenure as Thiruvananthapuram’s MP, indicating he had alternative career possibilities, including speaking engagements and writing books, if his services were not required by Congress.
