Keanu Reeves shares exciting update on ‘Constantine’ sequel

Fans of Constantine may finally get the long-awaited sequel, as Keanu Reeves recently revealed that the project has taken a significant step forward. The actor, known for his roles in ‘John Wick’ and ‘The Matrix,’ shared in an interview with Inverse that he and director Francis Lawrence have been working on the idea for years.
Reeves revealed that the studio gave them the green light to move forward with the process, allowing them to begin working on the script.
While the actor remained secretive about specific plot details, he confirmed that the new film would take place in the same world as the original 2005 movie. He reassured fans that the sequel would not deviate from the established universe and hinted that his character, John Constantine, would face even more torment this time around.
His comments followed an update from director Francis Lawrence just a week earlier. The filmmaker had mentioned that he and Reeves were “closer than ever” to making Constantine 2 happen. Lawrence revealed that they had spent years exploring various comics for inspiration and had developed a strong idea for the sequel. He explained that the idea had been evolving in their minds for the past 20 years as they continued to reflect on characters and stories they loved.
As reported by Deadline, Constantine is loosely based on the Hellblazer comics from DC and Vertigo Comics. When the film was first released, it received mixed reactions from fans of the source material due to some creative changes. However, over the years, it has gained a loyal following and is now considered a cult classic.
The original movie starred Keanu as John Constantine, a cynical exorcist with the ability to see supernatural beings and travel between Earth and Hell. The film also featured Rachel Weisz in a major role. With a sequel now in early development, longtime fans are hopeful that they will finally see Reeves return to one of his most iconic roles.
