After Prada's Kolhapuri slip-up, South Indian saree shop responds with viral ‘Louis Vuitton’ Kanchipuram saree
An Indian saree store, Pachaiyappas Silks, has sparked a viral sensation with its LV Kanchipuram saree, a handwoven creation blending Louis Vuitton monograms with traditional Tamil Nadu silk. This playful response to Western designers appropriating Indian crafts has ignited social media, with many expressing desire for this unique fusion.

Just when we were still recovering from Prada’s Kolhapuri chappal moment at Paris Fashion Week (where they conveniently forgot to credit India), the tables have turned and in the most hilarious, desi way possible.Enter: LV Kanchipuram sarees. Yes, Louis Vuitton meets Tamil Nadu, and no, you’re not dreaming.A reel from a popular South Indian saree store, Pachaiyappas Silks has taken over Instagram, featuring what might just be the sassiest clapback in fashion history. The viral video (with over 3 lakh views and counting) shows a graceful woman being shown what can only be described as the holy grail of crossovers, an onion pink Kanchipuram silk saree covered in the LV monogram. Not printed. Handwoven. Let that sink in. The salesperson, in full-on brand ambassador mode, presents the saree with flair and confidence, saying it’s “specially made” at Pachaiyappas. The caption? “A bold blend of tradition and global fashion. Wear it, style it, and be the trendsetter.” If that’s not peak desi pride, we don’t know what is.While no one’s completely sure if this is pure satire or an actual product (the internet is torn), the reel has definitely done its job, people are obsessed. Comments range from “Need this for my bestie’s wedding!” to “Is this available in Gucci green?” and “Only in India would we handloom haute couture.”The reel has sparked hilarious debates and serious inquiries because let’s face it, we love our saree designers, but we also love one-upping them with a bit of homegrown humour.

And honestly? If Dior and Prada can walk off with our crafts and act like they invented them, then why can’t we have a little fun throwing Louis Vuitton logos onto our silks? It’s called fashion democracy, thank you very much, even if it’s just for some fun.So whether the LV saree is real or not (and we kind of hope it is), one thing’s clear, India’s taking its cultural narrative back, one monogrammed border at a time.Next up? Versace veshtis, anyone?
