Producer Sunil Bohra confirms Malegaon Ka Superman re-release: 'Director Nasir Shaikh wants to re-edit it' - Exclusive

Producer Sunil Bohra is set to bring Malegaon Ka Superman back to cinemas, fulfilling a long-standing vision. Formerly titled Yeh Hai Malegaon Ka Superman, the film will undergo some updates before its theatrical re-release. Bohra revealed to ETimes, “We are planning to re-release the film and have spoken to Nasir Shaikh, who directed it. We need to do the grading, and Nasir wants to re-edit it.” Additionally, Bohra confirmed that a new song will be added to the film.
The film carries deep emotional significance as it starred Shafique Shaikh, a beloved actor from Malegaon, who passed away from cancer in 2011. His final wish was to witness his film’s release in a cinema hall, a dream that was realized with a special screening attended by filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and other industry figures.
Shafique Shaikh, diagnosed with cancer in 2010, was being treated at Tata Memorial Hospital. He attended the premiere of his film on September 6, 2011, and tragically passed away the following morning. His funeral in Malegaon’s Bada Qabrastan saw thousands in attendance.

Nasir Shaikh, the film’s director, had recalled, “Shaikh’s last wish was to watch the film in a cinema hall. We organized a premiere at 6 PM on Tuesday, and at 6 AM on Wednesday, he passed away.” Despite his deteriorating health, Shaikh was seen smiling at the applause from the audience. Unit member Akram Khan shared, “After the film, the audience shook hands with the actor and congratulated him.”
Shafique Shaikh was an integral part of Malegaon’s thriving low-budget film industry, which produces spoof films inspired by Bollywood and Hollywood hits. A resident of Gulab Park, Malegaon, Shaikh had appeared in several regional films, including Khandesh To Goa, Khandesh Ki Baraat, Khandesh Ka Qarazdar Master, Malegaon Ki Lagaan, and Khandesh Ka Doctor.

In Malegaon Ka Superman, Shaikh portrayed a local superhero battling the menace of tobacco addiction, a stark contrast to his real-life struggle with chewing gutka. The film, known for its quirky, low-budget charm, showcased the actor flying into electrical wires and taking down villains to save his village.
