Relief for Donald Trump administration: A federal appeals court in the United States has temporarily maintained President Donald Trump’s worldwide tariffs whilst examining the case on an expedited basis, as per an order issued on Tuesday.The ruling provides momentary relief to the Trump administration as they contest a lower court’s decision that had previously halted the president’s extensive tariff measures.Citing “issues of exceptional importance”, the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit announced its decision to expedite the case proceedings, according to an AP report.According to the court order, hearings are set for July 31, indicating that the tariffs will likely continue for a minimum of two additional months.In May, the US Court of International Trade determined that Trump had exceeded his presidential authority by implementing comprehensive global duties this year.Also Read | ‘Blatantly wrong’: Donald Trump administration blasts US court ruling blocking tariffs; says trade policy will continueThe court blocked the implementation of most broad-ranging tariffs, which led to the Trump administration’s subsequent appeal.After resuming presidency in January, Trump initiated a restructuring of US trade relationships globally, employing tariffs as a strategic tool to bring foreign governments into negotiations.In early April, Trump introduced comprehensive tariffs affecting most trading partners, establishing a basic 10 percent duty whilst warning of higher rates for numerous economies, including the European Union.The trade tribunal’s decision invalidated the emergency-power-based duties that Trump had separately enforced on Canada, Mexico and China.Although the appeals court permitted Trump’s tariffs to continue during the administration’s ongoing challenge, the coalition of small enterprises that secured the trade court’s decision against his duties has voiced their opposition.The group recently submitted a court document stating that maintaining Trump’s extensive tariffs throughout the appeals procedure “would cause irreparable harm” to enterprises and consumers nationwide.Also Read | ‘Even if we lose…’: Donald Trump administration readying two-part strategy to impose reciprocal tariffs, says ‘we will do it another way’
