'If you've lost confidence in state police...': Meghalaya minister on CBI probe demand in Indore couple case; 'We only want justice to prevail'

NEW DELHI: Meghalaya minister Alexander Hek on Sunday emphasised his state’s commitment to justice in the Indore couple case, amid a growing demand seeking transfer of probe to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).Hek told news agency ANI that the Meghalaya government would not have any problem if the case is given to CBI.“If you have lost confidence in the investigation by the Meghalaya Police, you can approach the central agencies or even international agencies. We do not have any problem. We never tolerate injustice,” the BJP leader said.“Everyone who is from Meghalaya is known for its peace-loving culture. There might be some isolated incidents, but every person here has advocated for peace in the state and in the country. If you believe in the state police, then they can also do the job. Or, you can go to a central or international agency. We only want justice to prevail,” he added. The minister’s statement comes two days after the family of Raja Raghuvanshi, a businessman from Madhya Pradesh’s Indore, wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging a CBI inquiry into the matter.Raghuvanshi and his wife, Sonam, went missing during their honeymoon in the Meghalaya. They were last seen on May 23.On June 2, the husband’s body was found in a gorge at Sohrarim near Cherrapunji in the northeastern state, while the wife is still missing, and the search operation to trace her continues.Earlier, Raghuvanshi’s brother expressed disappointment with how Meghalaya Police was probing the case.Speaking to ANI, Vipul Raghuvanshi stated, “We have sent a letter to the prime minister for a CBI inquiry. We want the PM and the (Madhya Pradesh) chief minister to extend support to us, and a CBI investigation should be conducted into the matter. It could bring justice to Raja and make finding Sonam easier. The way the Meghalaya police are working on this case, they won’t bring justice to Raja.”
