How Vicky Kaushal shed his bulked-up Chhaava look for for Love & War

Vicky Kaushal underwent an intense physical transformation to take on the role of Maratha warrior king Sambhaji. Sadly for the star, he not only had to shed off his bearded look, but also had to drop the pounds for his next film – Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Love and War‘.His trainer, Tejas Lalwani, recently opened up about how the actor shed his muscular frame for a leaner look in the upcoming romantic war drama.

Speaking about the transition, Tejas humorously revealed, “It was very easy. We completed Chhaava, and he went for a holiday. And for that time span, we didn’t know each other (laughs)! He was eating what he wished to, and there was no stop on it. He enjoys his life, he enjoys his food.”
While Kaushal indulged in his cravings during the break, his natural metabolism made it easier for him to lose weight. However, once he returned from his holiday, the team had a structured plan in place to help him achieve the leaner physique required for Love & War.

“For him, dropping weight is quite an easy task metabolically. But once we were back, there was a plan. We went into a calorie deficit, but it was done very systematically. We planned a calorie deficit of around 2000 to 2500 calories per day, and every week we would monitor how he was dropping weight and whether we were getting the structure we wanted,” said Tejas.
The process wasn’t just about reducing calories; it also required meticulous adjustments based on Kaushal’s hectic schedule, his diet and training regimen had to be flexible. “We also had to manipulate his diet depending on his shoot schedule and daily routine. On days when he was shooting two things, or on days when he was doing nothing, the approach had to change accordingly,” he added.
Kaushal decided to take it a step further by bringing in a dedicated nutritionist to fine-tune his diet. “Eventually, we reached a point where he said, ‘Let’s get a dedicated nutritionist on board.’ So, we got Alkesh on board, as he understood nutrition way better than me,” Tejas shared.
This disciplined and calculated approach helped Kaushal achieve the desired sharper and leaner look for Love & War, where he will be seen alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. The film marks his first collaboration with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and fans are eager to see him in a new avatar.
From the robust warrior in Chhaava to a leaner, more romantic yet intense look for Love & War, Kaushal’s ability to physically transform for his roles continues to impress.
