Nuclear signaling, Trump's ceasefire claim and Chinese missiles: What government told Parl panel on Operation Sindoor

NEW DELHI: The ministry of external affairs on Monday reiterated that the ceasefire between India and Pakistan was a bilateral decision and was not brokered by US President Donald Trump, contrary to his repeated claims, news agency PTI reported citing sources. This comes as foreign secretary Vikram Misri briefed the parliamentary standing committee on external affairs. The meeting was chaired by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and was attended by a number of lawmakers, including the TMC’s Abhishek Banerjee, the Congress’ Rajeev Shukla and Deepender Hooda, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, and the BJP’s Aparajita Sarangi and Arun Govil. The meeting took place as the government prepares to send MP delegations abroad to present India’s case on Pakistan-sponsored cross-border terrorism. Here is what Misri told the standing committee

  • The India-Pakistan conflict remained within the conventional military domain, and there was no nuclear signalling by Pakistan during the conflict.
  • The decision to cease military action was made bilaterally, in response to opposition members questioning President Trump’s repeated claims of US involvement in stopping the conflict.
  • When some MPs asked whether Pakistan used Chinese platforms during the conflict, Misri responded that it didn’t matter, as India had successfully struck Pakistani air bases.
  • Misri also said that the probe on Pahalgam terror attack revealed that terrorists involved in the attack “communicated with masterminds in Pakistan.” “Nexus evident among terrorists, military intel agency, civilian administration of Pakistan,” Misri added.
