Pritam Chakraborty robbery case: Police arrest office boy; recover stolen cash

Mumbai Police has arrested the office boy of music composer Pritam Chakraborty in connection with a theft case registered by Malad Police. Officials confirmed on Friday that cash stolen during the incident has been recovered from the accused.
Malad Police stated that Pritam Chakraborty’s office boy fled with ₹40 lakh in cash from his office. An official stated that the police have recovered 95 percent of the stolen money.
The accused, identified as Ashish Sayal (32), was arrested in connection with the theft case involving music composer Pritam Chakraborty. He had been employed as an office boy at Pritam’s studio for nine years. On February 4, Ashish Sayal allegedly stole a bag containing Rs 40 lakh from Pritam Chakraborty’s studio, pretending he was delivering it to the composer’s residence before fleeing. Police sources revealed that the studio, located on the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road, had received the cash from producer Madhu Mantena for a business transaction.
Chakraborty’s manager, Vinit Chheda, had placed the bag in the office in the presence of Sayal and other staff members. When he returned, the bag was missing. The staff informed him that Sayal had taken it, claiming he was on his way to deliver it to Chakraborty’s residence.
Chheda promptly informed Pritam Chakraborty about the incident. Initially, the music director trusted that Sayal would return, given his years of service. However, after waiting overnight with no sign of Sayal, Chakraborty directed his manager to lodge a police complaint.
Sayal allegedly escaped with the money, prompting the police to launch a manhunt. A team led by PSI Tushar Sukhdeve, under the guidance of DCP Anand Bhoite (Zone 11), Senior Inspector Vijaykumar Panhale, and Inspector Sanjay Bedwal, made several attempts to locate him. He was eventually tracked down and arrested in Samba district, Jammu & Kashmir, on Wednesday. Sayal was brought to Mumbai early today on a transit remand.
