NEW DELHI: Pakistan all-rounder Khushdil Shah has acknowledged India’s strength but firmly believes that Pakistan can defeat their arch-rivals if they perform at their best in their crucial Champions Trophy 2025 clash on Sunday at the Dubai International Stadium.
“India has a good, strong team, but every team is beatable, and India too can be defeated. If we bring our A-game, then we can beat India. The belief is there, and if there is belief, then we can make things happen,” Khushdil told TelecomAsia.

Pakistan face a must-win scenario after losing their opening match to New Zealand by 60 runs in Karachi. Meanwhile, India started their campaign strongly, defeating Bangladesh by six wickets. A loss for Mohammad Rizwan’s side could push them to the brink of elimination from the four-team group, where only two teams will advance to the semifinals.
Historically, Pakistan have beaten India in three of their five Champions Trophy meetings, including the famous 2017 final at The Oval. However, India have dominated their overall ICC encounters, particularly in the 50-over World Cup.
Khushdil emphasised that handling pressure will be key. “When India and Pakistan play, the whole world watches. The team that manages pressure better wins, and we are used to it.” He also urged fans to continue supporting Pakistan despite their rough start.
“We have lost one match but we are still in the tournament. We can beat India if we play well so don’t rule out as yet,” Khushdil said.
However, the batter also expressed frustration over criticism regarding his selection, stating, “Even I don’t know how I got selected.” He lamented the hostile reception from fans but claimed he has learned to embrace it.
