Lucknow Super Giants player Nicholas Pooran has praised team owner Sanjiv Goenka‘s supportive approach, highlighting how the ownership allows players autonomy in cricket-related decisions. LSG currently stand sixth in the IPL 2025 points table with five wins from nine matches, as they prepare to face Mumbai Indians on April 27.
Goenka has been a prominent figure at LSG matches and is known for his regular presence in the dressing room after games. His apparent disagreement with former captain KL Rahul on the field had drawn significant attention last IPL season.

“He’s been brilliant when it comes to supporting the guys. He allowed the guys to make the decisions, based on the cricket. That’s what I have felt so far. The owners have given the guys enough opportunities and obviously that has an impact on the game for the whole team and that was wonderful. Obviously it’s business end and with his backing, hopefully the guys can come up trumps now,” Pooran said during the interview with news agency PTI.

Pooran is enjoying exceptional form this season, securing the third position in the Orange Cap race with 377 runs at a strike rate of 204, trailing only Sai Sudharsan (417 runs) and Virat Kohli (392 runs).
The West Indian cricketer also discussed his connection with LSG captain Rishabh Pant, particularly their shared experience of surviving serious accidents. Pooran underwent multiple surgeries following a 2015 car accident in Trinidad, while Pant survived a crash in Roorkie in 2021.

Should team owners be more involved in on-field decisions?

“Even before the incident we had a good relationship. We always connect. We always chat, get together whenever we can. If he’s in the Caribbean or if I’m here. Accident is just something which was really unfortunate in our respective journeys but the bright side is we’re here playing cricket today. And that is a wonderful feeling. But yeah, we share our experiences. We try to help each other as much as we can,” Pooran shared.
