School rivalry turns fatal, teens stab 17-year-old boy

NEW DELHI: A bitter school rivalry culminated in tragedy in southeast Delhi’s Govindpuri area when a 17-year-old boy was fatally stabbed by three 16-year-old boys, police said. The accused teenagers alleged that the victim subjected them to repeated physical assault and issued ominous threats against them and their families.
The long-simmering feud reached a threshold when the victim summoned the boys to Okhla Estate Road on Saturday, purportedly to resolve the dispute. In a shocking display of violence, one juvenile allegedly restrained the victim while the other two stabbed him multiple times with knives, police said.
Police said they apprehended the suspects within 24 hours, retrieving the knives used in the crime. Investigation suggests that the attack was premeditated.
According to police, they received a PCR call at 9.45 pm from a relative of the deceased, reporting that his nephew was attacked and succumbed to injuries at the hospital. The minor boy sustained multiple stab wounds to the stomach and neck.
According to police, the incident took place around 8.30 pm. The victim was first taken to a private hospital and later shifted to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where he was declared dead during treatment. Police were subsequently informed.
A case was registered at Govindpuri police station under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
During the investigation, police conducted raids and detained the boys, all aged 16. “Two of them are students of class XI, while the third was a class V drop out.”
According to police, the juveniles reportedly told police that the victim was their schoolmate and studied in class XII.
“During their interview with the juvenile officer, they claimed he physically assaulted them on multiple occasions, prompting them to plot revenge,” DCP Singh said. The victim’s father works as a construction labourer in Kerala, while his mother is employed as a domestic help in the area.
The accused boys were produced before the juvenile justice board and sent to a shelter home after that.
