New Delhi: Rohit Sharma had his right knee heavily strapped on the eve of Mumbai Indians’ match against Delhi Capitals in New Delhi. The former MI captain gingerly went through fitness routines on Saturday. He emerged for batting practice later on Saturday evening where he knocked the ball around and took throw-downs from specialists.
The 37-year-old spent much of the evening working on his fitness, much like Friday when he received massages before the session was interrupted by a dust storm. Sharma spent most of the session looking after his knee and had conversations with skipper Hardik Pandya and teammates Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and the medical staff.

Rohit has already missed one game for MI this IPL season, against Lucknow Super Giants on April 4. Then Pandya had revealed that Rohit was struck on the knee before the game and the issue prevented him from taking the field. Coach Mahela Jayawardene provided more information.
“Ro got a hit on his knee just in the IT (iliotibial) band, he tried to bat yesterday and couldn’t put any weight on it,” Jayawardene said in the press conference.
“Again, he came and did a fitness test early today (Friday) to try, and it was discomfort for him to put weight on that so he felt it wasn’t 100% for him to play this game. That’s why we thought we will give him a few more days to try and get through that. Unfortunate what happened in the nets.”
Despite playing on 7 April, against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where he scored 17 runs, it is safe to say Rohit has not fully recovered.
India’s Test and ODI captain has not had a great start to the season. He has mustered only 38 runs from four innings at an average of 9.50.
Mumbai Indians have also struggled to get off the blocks with one win from five matches played. They currently sit eighth in the 10-team competition and would hope to climb up when they face table-toppers DC at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday evening.
