Kolkata Knight Riders secured a commanding 8-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025 on Friday, with CSK recording their lowest-ever total at Chepauk Stadium. The defeat, CSK’s fifth consecutive loss, sparked criticism from former Indian cricketer Kris Srikkanth, who called for squad changes.
Sunil Narine delivered an outstanding all-round performance, claiming three wickets with his off-spin bowling and scoring a quick 44 runs off 18 balls, including five sixes and two fours.

KKR successfully chased down CSK’s below-par total of 103-9 with 59 balls remaining, moving to third place in the points table while CSK dropped to ninth in the 10-team competition.
The defeat marked CSK’s third-lowest total in IPL history and their poorest batting performance at their home ground Chepauk.
Srikkanth expressed his frustration with CSK’s performance on social media platform X, sharing his thoughts on potential team changes.
“One of CSK’s worst defeats ever. Powerplay batting looked like a rehearsal for a test [Test] match. Whole XI feels like it’s running on nostalgia. Time to think out of the box, why not try some unsold players like Prithvi Shaw at this point? Would you try it? , even chaos is a strategy?” Srikkanth posted.
The MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings were thoroughly outplayed by KKR, failing to make an impact with both bat and ball.
The five-time IPL champions’ current form has left their supporters disappointed as they continue to struggle in the tournament.
MS Dhoni returns as CSK Captain, confirms coach Stephen Fleming
Narine’s impressive performance with both bat and ball proved decisive in KKR’s comprehensive victory, highlighting the gap between the two teams on the day.
The result has significant implications for the tournament standings, with KKR strengthening their position in the top three while CSK’s playoff hopes face mounting pressure after their fifth straight defeat.
