Watch: Virender Sehwag doesn't hold back on MS Dhoni's short-lived stay during CSK vs KKR
MS Dhoni had a short stay in the middle during Chennai Super Kings vs Lucknow Super Giants at Chepauk in IPL 2025.

Chennai Super Kings suffered their historic third consecutive defeat at Chepauk in IPL 2025, scoring their lowest total of 103/9 at the venue, as Kolkata Knight Riders secured a dominant victory by chasing down the target in just 10.1 overs on Friday night. MS Dhoni, who returned as captain following Ruturaj Gaikwad’s tournament-ending injury, managed only one run before being dismissed, albeit in controversial circumstances.
Former India opener Virender Sehwag dismissed speculation about Dhoni’s potential impact on the match outcome during the post-match show.

“I don’t think so. If he didn’t get out, they could’ve scored a maximum of 130. KKR chased this target (104) down in 10.1 overs. We would be coming live at 11:30pm instead. That would’ve been the only difference,” Sehwag said.
CSK‘s batting performance was lacklustre from the start, managing only 31 runs in the powerplay with wickets falling regularly. Shivam Dube (31) and Vijay Shankar (29) were the only notable contributors helping the team cross the 100-run mark.
KKR’s spin bowlers dominated the match, with Sunil Narine claiming 3/13 and Varun Chakaravarthy taking 2/18, effectively dismantling the CSK batting lineup.
Dhoni, batting at number 9, faced four balls before falling LBW to Narine in the 16th over, leaving the home crowd stunned.
The chase proved straightforward for KKR, with Sunil Narine leading the charge with an explosive 44 off 18 balls, including five sixes. Rinku Singh sealed the victory with a six off Ravindra Jadeja.

The loss marked CSK’s fifth consecutive defeat in IPL 2025, leaving them at ninth position with just one win.
The defeat was particularly significant as it marked the first time in IPL history that CSK lost three consecutive matches at their home ground, Chepauk. CSK also lost their fifth match in a row – another first for them in the tournament’s history.
KKR’s victory propelled them to third place in the points table, with three wins and three losses from six matches.
