Can't bat, can't catch: A look at CSK's disastrous IPL season in the field
Chennai Super Kings’ Mukesh Choudhary attempts to take the catch of Punjab Kings’ Priyansh Arya during an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 cricket match between Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings, in New Chandigarh.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have dropped five catches during their encounter against Punjab Kings on Tuesday night at the New PCA Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh. Overall, CSK have spilled 11 catches in this IPL season only.
Following their 18-run loss, CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad has acknowledged that poor fielding cost them the match against Punjab.
“In the last four games, the only point of difference has been fielding,” he said in the post-match presentation.
“Dropped catches have cost us. The same batsman goes on to score 15, 20, or even 30 more runs after a drop.”
Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming too has lambasted his side’s fielding against Punjab match.
“The game was really lost in the field,” Fleming told reporters after the match.

Sai Sudharsan Exclusive Interview: ‘The dream is to play Test cricket’

“I thought we were sloppy in the field, and we just lacked accuracy under pressure at certain times. We were put under pressure by fine innings, but we’ve got to be better than that in terms of shutting it down.
“So, that’s where the game got away from us, and we’re 18 runs short in a big run chase, so we can look at three sixes here and there.
So, yeah, it’s a frustrating season so far. The catching has been poor, but it was poor from both sides tonight. Whether it was something in the light, I’m not sure, but certainly for us, that was an area of concern.
“If you want to pick up 20 runs, it’s probably that and drop catches.”
