Joint budget session of UP legislative assembly to be held on February 20, says CM Adityanath

NEW DELHI: The Uttar Pradesh Budget session is set to witness a joint sitting of both Houses on February 20, chief minister Yogi Adityanath said. The session, which commenced on February 18, will run until March 5. The Governor’s opened the proceedings of the House on February 18. The Budget for the financial year 2025-26 will be presented during this period, alongside discussions on public welfare and state development.
Addressing the assembly, CM Adityanath highlighted the importance of the session, saying that it would provide an opportunity for lawmakers to deliberate on crucial matters. He urged the opposition to participate constructively rather than disrupt proceedings. “The smooth conduct of the session is essential for the welfare of the people. The opposition should fulfil its role responsibly. They have the right to criticise but should also cooperate in meaningful discussions,” he said.
Finance minister Suresh Kumar Khanna assured that the upcoming budget would prioritise the welfare of the poor and middle class while also focusing on infrastructure development. “The budget will reflect the aspirations of the people and aim for balanced growth,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Speaker Satish Mahana echoed the call for productive debate, ensuring that all voices would be heard in the House. “If we want to focus on people’s welfare, everyone’s cooperation is important.
Despite opposition protests, the session is expected to continue with deliberations on key policies. minister Om Prakash Rajbhar described the budget as one of “prosperity,” aligning with the Centre’s economic vision. “This will be the biggest budget so far, focusing on the needs of every section, including farmers, youth, and the unemployed,” he said.
