PATIALA: A loud explosion occurred near the Badshahpur police post, which falls under the sub-division of Patran of Patiala district, on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. The blast shattered the windowpanes of the Cooperative Society office adjacent to the police post. Upon receiving information about the incident, SSP Patiala Nanak Singh and SP Yogesh Sharma arrived at the scene to begin the investigation. However, no leads were found yet.
The police said they received information about an explosion at the Badshahpur police post around midnight, following which SP Yogesh Sharma and DSP Patran Inderpal Singh Chauhan assessed the situation on-site. The police are investigating the matter but claimed that during the initial investigation, a thorough search was conducted in the fields and vacant plots around the police post. No clues were found so far suggesting that this might have been a grenade attack on the police post. The police added that the explosion caused the windows of the Cooperative Society office next to the police post to shatter.
“There are no clues found that it is a grenade attack, but we cannot rule it out at this moment as the search operation is ongoing. The impact of the blast left the windowpanes of the Cooperative Society building broken. So far, there are reports that Babbar Khalsa International has taken responsibility for the blast, but the facts are being verified as things will be cleared in the next few hours,” said a senior police officer.
