Here’s how a model and influencer creates edgy makeup looks for the upcoming wedding season: see products

Rituparna Som

Subiksha Shivakumar, a model and influencer, channels the country’s festive mood in looks that are resolute extensions of her own individuality. Minimal but striking, muted but sharp, sexy and confident— these are a far cry from the smoky-eyed, red-lipped failsafe. But Shivakumar’s approach is playful, a reminder that creating a look is as much about the gaze that falls on you as it is about how you direct it. “I believe makeup isn’t one size fits all,” she says. “I know my face and what works and what doesn’t. I love clean lines. When it comes to my base, less is more. On the contrary when it comes to my eyes, more is less.” When she started experimenting with makeup a couple of years ago, Shivakumar turned to the self-assured examples set by Lady Gaga and Euphoria. Today, it’s distilled into these festive looks, created from a place of confidence and celebration.

Metallic edge

Blouse, lehenga; both Tarun Tahiliani. Earrings, Curio Cottage

Shivakumar boosts the shine from her champagne lehenga with metallic water-based pigments dabbed in the inner corner of each eye, swiped as a liner and smeared on the lower lash line. While the eyes gleam, the lips stay soft, with a swipe of Mehr by M.A.C., one of the most universally flattering colours for most Indian skin tones.

Bold blue

Blouse, sari; both Manish Malhotra. Earrings, Misho
