Hardik Pandya fined after Mumbai Indians maintain slow over-rate vs Gujarat Titans
Mumbai Indians have been penalised for slow over rate against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad.

Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya has been fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over rate during Match No. 9 of IPL 2025 against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. This marks the first slow over-rate fine of the IPL 2025 season, as confirmed by officials after Mumbai Indians’ 36-run loss to Gujarat Titans.
The penalty was imposed as it was the team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences.

Pandya had previously missed Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2025 opener against Chennai Super Kings due to a slow over-rate ban from the team’s last IPL 2024 match against Lucknow Super Giants. Mumbai Indians went on to lose their IPL 2025 opener against CSK by four wickets.
The IPL’s governing council implemented new playing conditions for the 2025 season, particularly regarding slow over-rate offences.
“Effective this season, a new Code of Conduct will be implemented from the TATA IPL 2025 season, introducing a demerit points system and suspension points which will remain valid for 36 months,” stated the BCCI in an official release.
Addressing the carry-over of slow over-rate bans to the next season, Pandya shared his perspective at a Mumbai Indians press conference: “That is out of my control. Last year what occurred is a part of the sport. What happened is that we bowled the last over 2-2.5 minutes late.”
He further added: “At that time, I was not aware of the consequences. It was unfortunate but rules say it so I have to go with the process. Whether the penalty should continue in the next season or not, it is on the higher authorities.”
Mumbai Indians currently hold the ninth position in the standings with zero points.
MI are scheduled to face defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders in their next match at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday, March 31.
