Several forests have been destroyed, threatening the survival of many species. The loss of forests results in the extinction of several flora and fauna. It also impacts the lives of millions of people whose livelihoods depend on forests. In this situation, the species tends to move to other habitats or be left to die without a proper shelter. Following the loss of their natural habitat, many species are in the range of extinction also. In the same vein, two squirrels moved to another place due to the loss of their habitats. They came to the mango tree in front of the Mangala indoor stadium in Mangaluru. They survived because of the food provided by the caretaker of the stadium. Initially, there were two squirrels, but now there are a total of eight.

Durga Devdas Shetty has been on duty as the caretaker of Mangala Indoor Stadium for the past eighteen years. Shetty once noticed that the squirrels made their habitat in the mango tree opposite the stadium. He has given rice to them, who were struggling without food in their initial days. When Devadas put rice in a wooden pot, two squirrels ran and ate the rice. The next day, at the same time, the squirrels came to the same place and waited for food.

Devdas Shetty has given food to the squirrels again, and it has been six long years since he has been feeding them. He puts the used rice in a wooden pot every day. The number of squirrels has now increased from two to eight in these past years. He feeds the squirrels twice a day. Devdas give rice in the morning and fruits in the evening to them. Every day the squirrel waits for the arrival of Devdas and survives by eating the food he gives.
