The 2025 Indian Premier League is off to a blazing start, with power-packed performances setting the tone early in the season. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) currently sit atop the points table following a commanding 44-run victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in a record-breaking contest.
Ishan Kishan’s scintillating 106 not out off 47 balls helped SRH post 286/6 — second only to their own record 287 — and earned them a healthy Net Run Rate (NRR) of +2.200.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) joined SRH and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on two points after edging out Mumbai Indians (MI) by four wickets in a tightly fought game at Chepauk. Chasing 156, Rachin Ravindra’s unbeaten 65 anchored the innings, while Vignesh Puthur impressed with a three-wicket haul for MI. CSK’s win gives them an NRR of +0.493 and third spot on the table.

RCB, who defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their opener, are second with an NRR of +2.137. Their successful chase of 175 in just 16.2 overs gave their campaign a flying start.
Delhi Capitals opened their campaign with a thrilling one-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants, and are now at fourth in the standings with two points and a positive NRR of 0.371. LSG now sit at fifth after the defeat.
Mumbai Indians are at sixth with an NRR of -0.493 after their loss to CSK. Despite Deepak Chahar’s cameo (28 not out off 15), MI could only post 155/9, a total CSK chased down with five balls to spare.
Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals sit at the bottom of the standings, both having suffered heavy defeats. KKR were outclassed by RCB, while RR were steamrolled by SRH’s batting onslaught. Their NRRs of -2.137 and -2.200 respectively reflect the scale of their opening losses.
With Gujarat Titans playing Punjab Kings next, the table is set for more shake-ups in the coming days. As teams gear up for their second outings, early momentum is already proving to be a crucial factor in IPL 2025.
