J&K encounter: Fierce gunfight underway after security personnel spot terrorists during search op in Kathua

An encounter between security forces and suspected terrorists erupted in Jammu & Kashmir’s Kathua district on Sunday evening during a search operation launched by security personnel in Sanyal village, located near the International Border in the Hiranagar sector.
The operation was initiated following credible intelligence regarding the presence of armed militants in the area.
Officials reported that security forces spotted three to five terrorists during their operation, prompting an immediate response that led to a fierce exchange of gunfire.
As the situation unfolded, reinforcements were dispatched to support the initial team engaged in the encounter.
The Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Nalin Prabhat, is closely monitoring the situation, coordinating efforts with local officials to ensure a comprehensive response. Senior officers have been instructed to reach the encounter site promptly to oversee operations.
Local police are urging residents to remain calm and cooperate with security forces as they work to neutralise the threat posed by the terrorists.
