RG Kar rape-murder case: SC allows parents of victim to pursue CBI probe plea in Calcutta HC

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court bench led by CJI Sanjiv Khanna on Monday permitted the parents of the RG Kar medical college rape-murder victim to pursue their writ petition before a single-judge bench of the Calcutta high court.
They are seeking a further investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into their daughter’s homicidal death, aiming to recover the alleged involvement of individuals beyond the primary accused, Sanjay Roy.
Senior Advocate Karuna Nundi represented the victim’s parents, while Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appeared on behalf of the CBI.
Meanwhile, earlier in January, a Kolkata court had sentenced Sanjay Roy to life imprisonment after he was convicted of rape and murder of a 31-year-old doctor at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000.
